Our team brings together extensive expertise in surveying, site planning, and civil engineering. We all share the same goals on every engagement: To solve our clients’ challenges, to raise the bar on service, and to make the process enjoyable, every step of the way.
Jonathan Burkhardt has been with the company since 2003, where he began as a rodman on the survey crew, and later worked as a drafter/designer while obtaining his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at The University of Dayton. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and serves as the President/CEO, providing direction and strategy for the firm along with being involved in concept and design planning for projects.
Growing up around the industry and watching his father (Founder, John Burkhardt) work on projects sparked his interest in becoming a civil engineer; once he started working in the industry and studying civil engineering he knew he’d found a business he was passionate about. Jonathan breaks his position down to two things: taking care of our team and equipping the team to take great care of our clients. He enjoys that his position is always pushing him to learn something knew or overcome a challenge in a creative way. He is extremely proud of the team we have at Burkhardt – “I’m so grateful to work alongside such a genuine and passionate group of professionals who truly care about the outcome of every project and client relationship.”
When Jonathan is not leading the team, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, reading, golfing, and watching University of Dayton and Kentucky Wildcats basketball!
Ryan Morrissey started with Burkhardt in 2013 as a design engineer. He is now a licensed Professional Engineer and Project Team Leader, managing commercial development projects primarily for single-tenant retail developers on a national level. Ryan attended Kent State University where he began his studies in architecture, but his uncles and grandfather (also civil engineers) recognized Ryan’s technical skills and persuaded him to make the switch to civil engineering.
When Ryan is not cranking out projects, he enjoys spending time with his family consisting of his two sons, baby girl, and his fantastic wife. He also enjoys working on his classic car and is an avid Notre Dame Football fan!
Mike Novean has been with Burkhardt since late 2012. He is a licensed Professional Surveyor and Professional Engineer and currently serves as the Survey Manager and a Project Team Leader. His role is managing the surveying department and coordinating the survey crew and CAD team. He also supports the engineering side as a Project Team Leader when needed.
Mike grew up in New Knoxville, Ohio; a small town close to where Neil Armstrong was born. While in high school, he worked for the Minster Machine Company doing CAD drafting of hydraulic and mechanical press parts. He originally planned on becoming a mechanical engineer, but upon starting at the University of Cincinnati he enrolled in civil engineering because the program had openings (it was destiny!). As part of his co-op at UC, he was working with surveyors and took an interest in the field; between working with them and researching deeds and surveys for engineering design, he found another enjoyable aspect of the work and continued his education at Cincinnati State to get his surveying license. Mike enjoys the challenges presented on every project, he loves the problem solving; being able to solve those problems and help people is what he is most proud of.
When Mike is not working you can find him spending time with his kids - helping them with their school work and supporting them in all their extracurricular. A little-known fact about Mike: although he is not a morning person, he worked the morning shift on a dairy farm in high school. He says the best part of that job was getting to see all the stars and constellations when getting the cows in from the pastures.
Ryan Davenport has been with Burkhardt since February 2020. He is a licensed Professional Surveyor and currently serves as the Project Surveyor. His role is managing each survey project and coordinating with the survey crew and CAD team.
Ryan grew up in Fairfield, Ohio. While in high school, he played multiple sports including baseball, basketball, and cross country. He originally planned on becoming a mathematics teacher, but after starting at the Miami University he chose a different path and enrolled in the surveying program at Cincinnati State because his father recommended the profession. He is a 4 th generation surveyor, but has found surveying in his bloodline dating back to the early 1800’s. While at Cincinnati State, he was the survey team leader of the ASCE program. As part of his co-op at Cincinnati State, he worked initially as an instrument operator and quickly promoted to field crew chief after moving to southeastern Kentucky. He started in the profession during the recession of the housing market. Fortunately, he was able to grow into a well-rounded surveyor with vast knowledge in all aspects of surveying including underground, terrestrial, bathymetric, and aerial. He became a registered licensed surveyor in Kentucky in February 2019, and Ohio in October 2021. Ryan enjoys the diversity of every project; he loves finding alternate solutions. Ryan is adamant to help people improve in the profession of surveying.
When Ryan is not working you can find him spending time with his three kids. He coaches his son’s baseball and basketball teams. A little-known fact about Ryan: he played baseball and basketball in college.
